2022 Week 10

Ti cos

New week-end, new look at the week's production ! Last time, I left you with the very start of a Tau reinforcements force that are to join an previously painted army for Sn Battle reports. Back 7 days ago, only the green and black were airbrushed. First things first. The creme stripes were painted followed by edge highlights on the green. That alone already gives an almost completed look to the army haha.

Unfortunately, me being me... When I get into my headspace of painting, I am... Right there, in that headspace, and nothing else outside of that matters, add to that the fact that at this point I'm reaching the end of the Witchers audiobooks series ( again.... ) while painting and well... Pictures are a forgotten thing. Meaning, the next pictures update I got is... the almost completed paint job haha Here you can see, the heads where painted white separately, I added some brown scratches and paint chipped, followed by some bight silver on edges for a nice worn down look. The grey parts also received grey edge highlights. Finally, the lights were also done with a mix of airbrush and brush work.

After that... the only thing left to do were... the bases. Surprisingly enough, these were a pain to get right. See, the previous part of the army was completed about two to three years ago and... ALL the materials I used then were used to the last drop since and where very old stuff. Like a very old pot of brown sienna paint that lasted me close to ten years and has been completely spent for quite some times now. Same goes for the sans I used back then, that stock is now a long forgotten memory and the new stock I have now doesn't look anywhere close to that old one. So... i had to spend quite some time mixing stuff together to find a matching result. The lesson here is... If you ever go towards a commission painter and now you might add up to your army later on, TELL HIM ! haha * more on that below *

So here we go, army ready ! Or so I thought. See, Since the first time around I wasn't told there might be addition to that army, I treated it as a one-off. Meaning I didn't care AT ALL to chose a pre-mixed paint or not write down the paints used. thankfully with my WIP pictures I can recognize my paints on the desk, So I have that working for me, BUT, after three years and thousands of minis since that time, I don't remember the quantities mixed together. I have to.. try, and try, and try again with my pictures as back up since it was not possible to send me previously painted models, for understandable reason ( this is a professional company that use these models often for battle reports ) Anyways, the point is... I later realized the creme parts were far to yellowed and not white enough, So I had to go over them again. And, as I am typing this, I still think I'm going to have to brighten them a some more. So, here we go, this is as they are now, waiting for their final photo shooting and possible, re-work on the creme / beige.

Alright ! Next ! Next is... You know ? When I mentioned reinforcements for a previously painted army treated as a one-off with mixed instead of ready to go paints as I didn't expect more of this army ? Well, we are back at it, two in a row ! And this one... ohhhhh this one... I don't even have my paints on the wip pictures. THANKFULLY ! the first part was not too old so I still remember the paints used and think I did match the color fairly well. But boy oh boy motivation was NOT present and a lot of procrastination was done. Also... the original army was a fairly small army of only tanks. Since I love working on tanks and space marines vehicles come quite rarely at the studio, I really pushed the details level and weathering to a level I would not gravitate toward for larger order, especially since I don't charge more in those case, I just do it for fun. So what I'm left with here is a medium to large force of tanks, that I need to color match with a previous order made exclusively of mixed paints to match an already existing army, with a SHITLOAD of modular parts and to a paint level that I should normally charge a lot more for. haha I know, I know, it seems like a lot of negativity. Don't get me wrong, it's not. It's simply funny to see two armies I treated in the same way ( paint mix, no notes, un-expected reinforcements ) arrive back to back on the work desk while it's usually extremely rare for it to happen. So what is this secret army ? Ultramarines ! That's who it is, the famous blue boys of the emperor. First of, dark base layers after hours of tests.

Followed by highlights and edge highlights

And here are some close ups on these.

And that's it for this week. for the next Monday - Friday period the goal is to finish the Ultramarines and have them photo-shot and packed up. Then next will be some Titanicus. Yet again, a very small force, done as a test for a larger one. I hope you enjoy that little tour in my, slowly but surely, crashing down sanity haha Enjoy you rweek-end and see you in 7 days ( no ... not akin to the ring movies ) !
